June 29:
Todd Baptista
Twin 25-lap features for each of the Seekonk Youth Racing Association classes produced four different winners at the 1/3-mile Bay State oval on Friday night, June 29. When the dust settled, Dylan Estrella and Chris Igo, Jr. had won their first career Seekonk points events, while Chris Robinson and Casey Sanchez padded to their respective victory totals. Carl Medeiros, Jr. and Jake Spillers led the first two circuits in the initial 25-lapper for the 600-restrictor plate class before Sanchez, who started ninth in the ten-car field, rocketed into the lead. Derryck Anderson, Jr. used the outside lane to claim second but soon had his hands full with rookie Chris Igo, Jr., who took the position away on lap 10. At the halfway point, Spillers ran fourth, ahead of Adam Swift, Timmy Brown, and Nick Ladyga. Igo and Anderson put on a stellar battle for second through the closing laps while Brown used a lap 13 restart to advance to fourth. In the end, however, 13-year old Sanchez, of Providence, RI, captured his third consecutive feature win, becoming only the fourth driver in SYRA history to capture three in a row. Igo was second with Brown third, Anderson fourth, and Spillers fifth. The running order was reversed for the second 25-lap feature which saw Adam Swift sustain the lead through the early laps despite a multitude of caution flags. David Hutchins, Brown, Sanchez, and Ladyga all got into the yellow action, while Igo weaved his way from the back to the front. By lap 3, the 15 year-old North Easton, MA rookie was up to second. On lap 9, Igo, Swift, and Anderson went three-wide for the top spot with Igo’s C. M. Cleaning Co.-sponsored #8 earning the lead.
Brown and Hutchins again locked horns
at the halfway point, allowing Anderson to restart alongside Igo,
but Chris pulled away when racing resumed, crossing the stripe 4.95
seconds ahead of Derryck to earn his first career win. Anderson,
Spillers, Sanchez, and Swift rounded out the top five. |
